Hey everyone for this review I take on JRPG Earthlock Festival of Magic for the Playstation 4 its also on Xbox One and Steam. This is a throwback in a lot of way to the 6th generation of jrpgs and if you are someone who enjoys those games still today this will be right up your alley.

I received this game from the publisher for the purpose of doing this review.

My reviews are 100% unbiased and I will never do one unless I am confident enough to do so. I use a scale of 1 – 10 with 5 being a average game. Many professional reviewers use 7 as a average game which I find is more of a trick to convince you the consumer that a game is better then it really is.

  1. I've searched and searched for a game like the ps1/ps2 rpgs for a long time now i just miss that feeling like i was pulled into a world with all its amazing stories and side quests building crafting collecting cards…. games like that are so far and few between now and i find my self at a loss in a world of flashy graphics but little game play substance.

  2. Great review that has helped me make up my mind whether to buy it or not! I really miss turn-based battles in games, so I think I'll enjoy this. Oli.

  3. great review the only thing your missing is to warn to newcomers the insane difficulty that the final boss was xD

  4. Looks like a cheap indie tablet game. Yet the super old Chrono Trigger is still pure fun. Even after the 100th playthrough. And that is because of the combat system. Earthlock looks absolute slow and boring. And is definitely not worth the asking price!

Now I want to play Dark Cloud 2 again.

  5. I was really on the fence about this one. It looked interesting but it didn't seem like it would be anything decent. now I think I'll pick it up sometime. Thanks for the review 😀

  6. 8 out of 10 that's pretty good! I'm going to get the retail physical release of this game!

  7. Oh my, has the time come for the PS4 to receive great turn based RPGs? Because I miss them so much! But now I have Darkest Dungeon waiting to play, this one and World of Final Fantasy to try later. And even Dex, which is more action RPG but has that feeling of an SNES/PSX game like Castlevania SotN. Awesome!

  8. Great review. Got this with Xbox Games with Gold a few months back and loved it 🙂
I've grown out of JRPGs over the years but this one was a nice trip back in time.

  9. Great review as always, thanks a lot! This game is for some time on my list (because – as you noted – it will get a physical release by Soedesco on February 14th for the PS4 and XboxOne) and it is great to see that the game is very good! I love turn-based RPGs, and I'm glad that this one gets a physical release. After the disappointment of FFXV (maybe just me) I'm looking forward playing this game and World of Final Fantasy.

  10. I really really wish I liked JRPGs, the games looks so good but I just can't get on with them, I just cant get with turn based and inventory management. It annoys me so much as I feel I miss out on great stories and games.

  11. "Being a long-time JRPG fan-"

Oh my gosh, your shirt! 😀

And thanks for the great review; I wasn't even aware of this game's existence yet, and it looks like it's right up my alley.

  12. I will have to look into this one, reminded me of middle school gaming back in the day. Through ps1 and ps2 90% of what I played were rpg's. Solid review thanks!

  13. Hey everyone thanks for checking out the review like I mentioned a few times in the review if you like the early 2000's era of JRPGs on ps2 you are going to most likely enjoy this game quite a bit. Good music, fun combat that is never to easy with enough vareity to keep things interesting and a few side quests to make sure you don't get to bored overall I recommend checking this one out.
