My ps2 wont read memory card. What can I do?

I know the problem is not the memory card because slot two will read it. I would be fine just using that, but the problem is, most games will only look for slot one. Before you tell me yo upgrade to a ps3, I used two have an original 80mb one, but it got the YLOD, so I got a 320mb one, which does not have backwards compatibility. The card is an official Sony one. Is there a way I could change the slot orientation so that games will think slot 2 is slot 1 or something of the sort, or should I just buy a new one? A friend of mine is already willing to sell me a one. Also the ps2 is an original fat one while my friends is a newer slim one if that helps. Thanks in advance.
